ACROBAT
No circus without breathtaking acrobatics. Therefore, Tom took a trip to the dream and magic world of the ring and created elegant figures in proud and elegant shapes, all decorated in the typical Tom’s Drag style.
This article is made and painted by hand so variations in color, design, tone, small imperfections of glue or color and irregularities are a specific feature of the product and testify to the craftsmanship.
All Drag animals are decorated with imaginative costumes and exotic ornaments as if they were at a carnival parade. All are in the colors of the rainbow, emulating the same cheerful mood of one of Tom’s favorite songs, “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong.
Each article of Tom’s Drag is born from some quick sketch that the artist draws quickly transforming it into a detailed image. At this point a rough figure is hand carved from the wood with dimensions and proportions that reflect those that the final object will have. It is hand-painted by the artist and a prototype is created from which the blanket form will be made. This caoutchouc form is the key to all of Tom’s Drag’s works, as liquid marmorino, a mixture of ground marble and synthetic resin, will be poured into it and then solidified. The piece, initially an opaque white color, is then painted white and then polished. At this point, the edges of the color fields are drawn in pencil, which serve as a reference for the artist to paint the object. The work ends with the passage of a resin that makes the colors resistant.
